How Angel Peterson Got His Name
Gary Paulsen
Autobiography
Just Right

1.     I am currently reading How Angel Peterson Got His Name by Gary Paulsen. In my book right now something big is about to happen.  Angel Peterson who is very daring is trying to beat the world record for fastest speed on skis.  He has to go faster than 74 mph on land.  Its is one of the craziest things I have ever heard of. Angel has a lot of guts to go through with this stunt.  Bruce, Carl, and Archie are all part of the gang that helps Angel pull this amazing stunt off.  They bought all the high end clothing and protection.  They spent seven dollars and eighty one cents, which in there time, was a lot of money.  The protection gear they bought wasn't really much but it was enough to save him if he fell at top speeds.  Angel gets what he needs to get done and wont back down.  Angel makes the stunt and when he is passes 81 his skis popped off.   He was on the ground still holding the rope  and his thumb was still up.  They all thought he was dead but he said snow to much snow.  When they got him up they took off all of his clothes and took the snow out.  In the car he said I heard Angel sing.  They were singing Cheatin' Heart' my Hank Williams.  And from then on they called him Angel Peterson.  Another stunt that Angel accomplished was that he got in a bucket that he padded with sheep fur and fell over Niagara Falls.  When he landed in the water he stayed at the bottom and the bucket started leaking.  At the last moment the current took him and he flew out and the people took him out of thew bucket.  He was very close to dying because there was no way to open those buckets from the inside and it was leaking. That is everything that has happened and is happening in my book right now.

2.    This book has been great so far.  The detail it gives about every stunt, makes it sound like impossible to do these stunts.  In this book there really isn't a plot and the story's keep on getting better and better.  Every story inside the book has a climax so there is more than one climax.  All the characters are pretty gutsy but Angel is the bravest of them all, he defies all odds.  When Angel wants to go faster than 74 mph on skis I was like no way, but he did it.  It was so crazy, I was sure that Angel had died but he got up and wasn't even that hurt.  This author is pulling me into this book because the stories are so cool.  They are unreal and Angel has to be one of the bravest people in the world to do some of the stunts he does.  The theme of this book is difficult to say because there are many that I could use.  I have read books by Gary Paulson before and he is a very good author.  A few books I remember include Hatchet, Dogsong, and Woodsong.  He writes with immense detail and that's why I like him so much.  He is a very talented author.

3.     I think the theme of this book is sense of self.  That basically means finding the strength in yourself.  The author portrays this very well because with all the stunts you need to find strength from within.  I noticed this theme when Angel was doing all these crazy stunts.  This theme appears to be in the characters and not really in then plot.  The characters are all pretty gutsy but Angel is the craziest.  Another place where this theme shows up is when Angel goes successfully goes over Niagara Falls.  I couldn't believe it when I was reading that he got the courage to do that.  I would never be able to get the courage to go over Niagara Falls.  I think he is the only person that could ever get the courage to do this stunt because if you fail you will likely die.

4.     My favorite character is Angel Peterson because he is a dare devil and he is determined.  He won’t stop until he gets his stunt done.  In one of his stunts he wants to go above the fastest ski record which is 74 mph.  He gets it done without even practicing.  He just said I can do it and did it.  Angel perseveres and goes through with his actions and never gives up.  He would be a good role model for young kids just to talk about his traits not his job.  His job is a stunt devil and children should try not to be that.

5.    My least favorite character is Archie.  Archie is a jerk to everyone and is very inconsiderate.  When they ask Archie if he can drive Angel, because Angel wants to go over 74 mph he says no.  But then they say they will give him 5 dollars and he changes his mind.  Archie should have been nice and just said yes.  Another time Wayne was in the car and right when Angel was about to go over 74 mph he slapped Archie on the shoulder and said he wants to go for it.  After that it says in the book "something I never would have done before then.  You didn't touch Archie (27).  Archie is kind of bossy and does what he wants.

6.     I bet Angel will do another crazy stunt like jump off a building with a parachute or something crazy like that.  I am basing my prediction on the other stunts he did in this book.  He is a crazy guy who will do anything.  The author is guiding me to this prediction by the other stunts.  All the other stunts were unreal so I think this next one will be even more crazier.  Archie may severly hurt himsel one of these times though.
